Happenings, goings on, and stuff...

I know I've been MIA from this blog for a while. March has been kind of crazy!!

First, Luken had a scheduled surgery on Friday, March 13 (no, we're not superstitious!) to repair a Hydrocele, which is a type of hernia. His pediatrician had referred us to a specialist at his last well check, and it turned out a routine surgery was needed. The earlier in life, the better. It was nothing emergent, but we figured we'd get it out of the way while he's still young enough to not be scared, and while he could bounce back quickly.

So, I scheduled it for the Friday before our spring break, so he would not miss any school while he recovered.

The surgery went very well. Luken was certainly groggy and in some pain afterward. The doctor had prescribed a painkiller containing Hydrocodone, which we discovered makes Luken very nauseous and vomitous! (That is probably not a real word, but you get the point.) Poor little guy was throwing up a lot, which is even worse when you have had surgery on your abdomen! Once we figured out it was probably the medication, we stopped giving that to him and stuck with straight Motrin, and that made a HUGE difference!! The next day he was feeling a lot better. We kept him entertained but immobile with Star Wars movies, Lego Star Wars Wii game, and more Star Wars movies!! (Yes, our young Jedi has a new passion, it seems. He still loves octopuses, but SW is his primary focus at the moment.)

Anyway, we've had to take it easy over the past 2 weeks while he heals, and are finally ready to reemerge into the world at large! I haven't been to the gym in weeks, as I didn't want to risk him getting roughed up any in the childcare room.

He has a follow-up appointment in the beginning of May, and hopefully that will put an end to this chapter! No more surgeries for this boy, please!! :)

Also keeping me very busy has been editing the photos that I took when I was privileged enough to photograph another birth day this month! I have finally completed all the work and delivered the slide show to the new mom and dad, which is like the grand finale to me!!

Somewhere there in the past few weeks, I also turned 35 years old! Can you believe it? Thanks to those who passed on birthday wishes to me! I had a lovely day - Todd took the day off and we went out to breakfast. Later, he and the kids made and decorated a cake for me, and then in the afternoon, after a jaunt over to the pond to feed the ducks, we sat on the patio at a local Mexican restaurant for dinner while I sipped my favorite margarita!

We had a houseguest over one weekend - my sister, Karen, drove in from Santa Fe with a friend who was coming here to play cello at a nearby wedding, so the kids got to spend some time with her.

I have a bunch of pictures to share, but have not yet gotten them prepared for upload, as the birth pictures took precedence, but I hope to post them here soon!

So glad Luken's surgery went well! How exciting that you are photographing births - I bet you are awesome at it!
