Luken's birthday, Part I

On October 17, Luken turned FOUR! Both sets of grandparents were in town to join in the festivities, so we decided to go to the State Fair for some good, clean fun.

We arrived early in the day, before the rides were open, so we checked out a dog show to kick things off.

Here is Luken with Grandpa (Don), watching the dog tricks.

Keeley with Grandpa.

A doggie handstand on a human hand!

Luken and Grandma (Carol) discussing the show!

Walking around after the show, investigating a fountain. The whole gang (minus Mom) is in the background.

Luken, Daddy and Big Tex! Our first meeting (as we have never been to the fair before!)

Watching the trains running around Big Tex. (But I really took this pic to show off the birthday shirt I made for Luken. I hadn't snapped a proper picture of it at his party!)

Then we spotted an airbrush tattoo booth, and Luken picked out a big snake. But don't call it a snake to his face. He calls it a Chihuahua. It stems from Disney's Hercules movie, well, sort of. Luken deemed the snakes in that movie Chihuahuas, for some unknown reason. Now all big snakes are Chihuahuas. It's just one of those funny things!

Showing off his new "ink!"

A quick game of Skee-Ball with Mommy!

After all that, it was time for an ice cream break! Luken picked out a Nestle Crunch bar, mmmmm!

Grandma decided Keeley needed a Push-Up.

And the rides are open!
Luken on a Nascar ride. It really whipped around the corners, and it was great fun for him!

Then on to a boat ride!

Then a super-cool ride where you aim water onto a "burning" building, as the ride goes up and down and all around. How fun to pretend to be a firefighter!

Keeley, as beautiful as can be! :D

And in deep conversation with Grandma!

Luken on the swings! His deep look of concentration here was apparently inspired by Lightning McQueen! :D Is that the cutest thing ever, or what??!!

And that ended our first fair experience! It was a lot of fun, despite some wind and some heat and even some sprinkes of rain early in the day. We sampled a few fried foods, like a Fried PB&J and a Fried Latte, as well as some standards like Corn Dogs. Both kids crashed out in the car on the way home, and Luken took a good long nap. Keeley woke up before we even got home, but she was a doll nonetheless, as there was lots of activity going on around the house.
I didn't post EVERY pic, but I have some additional ones uploaded, so check them out here: http://s84.photobucket.com/albums/k38/lukeeley/2007-10-October/10-17-Lukens_%20Birthday/?start=all
More birthday festivities in the next post...
