So, this doesn't seem quite right: We had to take our little Texans to California to shoot guns. Ha!
Yes, another activity we can't do in our backyard, but we CAN do on our getaway. Lucky us!
It's a short drive from the house to a little patch of land where the residents can shoot bullets into a hillside. We were very spoiled to get to partake.
On the way, we had to wait for a couple of horses to get out of the way. :P
Hello, cows!
We started with some gun safety.
Demonstration time.
Luken's turn!
Keeley was apprehensive.
Then scared.
Then downright freaked-out and panicked.
So, Todd backed her off and re-started her with a pellet gun. That was a better way to ease into the whole thing. She was scared of the noise, though she had listened to several shots already, and was wearing earplugs. She does tend to start off cautious, but once she gets over her fears, she's unstoppable. :)
No exceptions today!
My turn! I left my camera with Keeley and said she could try to take some photos if she wanted.
I really enjoy her work!
I think some silliness is brewing.
Yep, yep, there it is!!
Little stinker is amused with herself.
Up to some more antics.
We did some damage to this can!
That was exhilarating!
Our training for the zombie apocalypse is complete! ;)
That evening, we went out for a quiet dinner with Don and Carol. She was just starting to get up and about again after her surgery.
The next morning was our last, and we kept it low-key - packing up and enjoying the weather and scenery!
We left mid-morning to meet Todd's sister and her family for pizza lunch at our old favorite joint. Except our fuzzy memories led us to the wrong place, and we had quite the adrenaline rush when we realized our mistake! Fortunately, it wasn't too late for us to cancel our order, and we high-tailed it to the RIGHT location. We have never laughed so hard.
Our trip back to the airport was uneventful, and we had successfully boarded and started arranging our on-board possessions when we got word that our flight was suddenly delayed by 2 hours, due to weather in DFW. Ugh! Fortunately, we were able to de-plane and hang out in the airport for a bit. Once back onboard, things went smoothly until we landed and had to wait 30 minutes for a gate. Once back on land, we had to wait another 30 minutes for our luggage. We were DRAGGING by that point. We finally pulled into the garage shortly before midnight.
The kids were real troopers, though. They are becoming fantastic travelers! It's a joy to show the world to them. :) We are happy to be home, but missing California already...

Hot-Tubbing and S'Mores
When we were (sadly) done with the beach, the kids were absolutely DRENCHED and covered in sand. As you'd expect. So, naturally, we did what normal parents do when you LEAVE the beach. Change them OUT of their clothes and put them IN their bathing suits. :P
Back at the house, it was time to check on the chickens - had they laid any eggs?
Three! (But, one was broken. Sad face.)
So beautiful!
Let's race!
Keeley played with Tundra.
Well, as long as we're in our suits, how about some hot-tubbing?!
Don't mind if I do. ;)
Grandpa is home!
Luken picked some blueberries from Grandpa's garden.
This is one gorgeous kid.
Todd and I fixed dinner for everyone, and then he and Don made a fire in the firepit. The only logical thing to do next was bring out some marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers. Logic, I tell ya!
You can't put a price on these kinds of memories!
My expertly-roasted marshmallow.
Yes, please.
Hammock snuggles topped off the most excellent day of all time!!!!!
